Business Consultant

Many people are confused about the difference between Business Consulting and Business Coaching.

What is the Difference?

The simplest way to put is: a business coach is like a partner, a business consultant is like an advisor. But, both give a needed outside objective perspective to help their clients improve.

We can help you Improve Your Business –

Business Consulting?

A business consultant works to improve a business through business analysis, processes & structure, and creating an action plan. They rely on their expertise in business to develop systems for the client. The goal is to get to the hard data and make process changes to improve how the business runs, communication, reporting, etc.

However, many times the plans and processes business consultants work to put in place are not implemented. As much as 80% of the time implementation of new processes and action plans fail. Some reasons for this are:

  • There is no ongoing accountability and oversight
  • The core reasons and purpose for the changes are not incorporated into the culture of the company
  • The changes are viewed as exterior and there is resistance to change

Business Coaching?

A business coach works to bring out the best of the individual and business, whether through focusing, changing habits, changing mindsets, helping with fears/beliefs, and/or accountability.  Business coaches rely on probing into the client to find wars that the client can improve internally in the business. The goal is to help the business owner, executive, and/or staff understand how they can improve themselves, their relationship to their work, and be even more successful.

However, many people have used a business coach in the past and state “they did not teach me anything.” or “they did not help me with the specifics of my business.” Some reasons for this are:

  • The coach focused on behavior changes within the person but was not trained or experienced to work on processes and systems for the business.
  • The individual was not willing to make the core changes within themselves to make a difference in the business and their success.
  • Lack of accountability and follow-through by the coach.
  • Lack of advice, strategy, or business processes to support business changes.
